Summary:
This graphic novel shows the famous painter in his early years, as budding artist in The Hague, where he receives his first painting lessons from his cousin, Anton Mauve and is introduced to De Haagse School, an artists collective. Vincent has an affair with one of his models, Sien, and increasingly leans on the generosity of his brother Theo, unable to make a living from his art.
Teun Berserik researched his subject thoroughly and depicts Vincent van Gogh as a driven, steadfast painter, struggling to find his own style, and dealing with the first signs of the madness that would devour him in his later years.
‘Very intriguing, with enchanting graphics. It feels very picturesque, which fits with the theme. Beautifully done.’ – STRIPINFO.BE
