Summary:
Village birds , which can be read independently, are the continuation, the second part of the “bird” trilogy by Gašper Krajnec, who is establishing himself as one of the most important names in Slovenian comic art. In them, Ambrož, the protagonist from City Birds , returns home to Carinthia. Through a combination of circumstances, he comes across a drawing that he knows is not his grandfather’s, but he doesn’t know who drew it. When he tries to discover the author, a part of his family’s history unfolds in front of him, an event that marked it in a key way and which also hides the answer to the question of what his grandfather drew for all his life – birds. The path to yourself, Ambrož discovers, also leads through the history of your family and past lives, which are hidden by the place where you grew up.
Village birds are Krajnč’s love letter to Carinthia, to the beauty of its landscape, but at least as much to its people: those who once lived there, during the Second World War, i.e. the time in which the main story in the novel is set, and those who they live today and shape it so that it remains a safe haven and a place of inspiration for all of us who have left it behind.
