Vasi can’t quite bring herself to come out to her family and tell them about her secret relationship. She’s still coming to terms with her own queer identity and grappling with grief after her mother’s passing. If that was not enough, strange events start happening around her, pulling her into a dark, magical forest.
When the mysterious blackout covers the city, Vasi must seek help from a powerful witch known only from old tales: Baba Yaga. Through confronting her own grief and self-doubt, Vasi will complete the witch’s trials and bring light back into the city.
Kamila Król is a queer Polish illustrator and comics artist based in Newport, UK. Her playful artwork is inspired by dreams and folklore, with much of her work focused on reviving and re-imagining elements of her Slavic heritage.
Her debut comic Rusalka – part 1 was awarded as Best Debut of 2021 by the Polish Comics Association and received the Polish Indie Comics Award in two categories.
She is best known for her graphic novel Rusalka: Whispers of the Forest (Strangers Publishing), which received the Broken Frontier’s Breakout Talent Award in 2023 and nomination for Best Polish Comic Award at the MFKiG (2024).
Kamila’s comics also appeared in anthologies such as Ignatz-nominated Let Her Be Evil (2024), as well as Boxes #2 (2024). She created work for ReedPop, Discord Comics, Third Bear Press and Lucent Dreaming.
