When the community of a small tourist island wakes one morning to find the outside world has fallen completely silent, the island looks to its resident vicar, Branson, for leadership. But as the community gradually realises, this is no temporary problem. Something very serious has happened. Attempts to reach the mainland by boat have failed, and strange lights in the sky are growing in number every night.
