Summary:
A suburb of Milan. Alberta, a young saleswoman, is found dead. Duca Lamberti, a former doctor whose license was revoked for helping an elderly patient die, needs work after three years in prison. So he agrees to look after the alcoholic son of a rich businessman and help him recover.
When Lamberti finds out that the young man drinks because he believes he is guilty of Alberta’s death, he begins his investigation. It involves young women who prostitute themselves out of necessity or curiosity, dirty pornography and murder. Duca Lamberti tries to solve these with the help of Livia, a young woman who offers herself as bait to set a trap for Alberta’s murderer.
Giorgio Scerbanenco (1911-1969) reports on the contradictions of Italy as they still exist today […]: the Italy of the poor, the outsiders, the crazy and the indifferent; the Italy of a new and absurdly brutal criminality that knows no fear and no shame; the Italy of political cover-ups and cover-ups.
