Summary:
The city of Cap is inspired by the historic feat of Jean Pierre Yvan Sagnet: thanks to him, gangmastering is now recognized as a crime in the Italian legal system. Not only that, his action started the first trial on a European scale against some entrepreneurs who exploited labour. Despite his courage and commitment, the labor situation in Italy is still well below the legal threshold. In “The City of Cap” the authors imagine a dystopian reality, set in a not too distant future, which shows the consequences of a progressive erosion of rights and delivers the revolution into the hands of a young, black and exploited woman. A humble person who, from the lowest rung of society, moves consciences, ignites civic sense, triggering a revolt to rediscover rights, capable of changing the destiny of many. Thus, Cap, presented to us as an orderly, functional, perfect, almost heavenly city, in reality turns out to be infernal, while the imperfection of a dream is able to restore freedom and humanity.
