Summary:
A dark, wayward story about marriage, infidelity, and childhood pain, all seen through the lens of therapy.
A wonderful psychological graphic novel” – Philippa Perry
DIRTY WORK is about a family teetering on the edge of collapse. We meet George
and Wendy, the car-crash parents of two young boys. Wendy is barely disguising
the affair she’s having and George is consumed by OCD. The book’s title refers to
the excruciating work the couple and their therapists must do in order to find a way
forward. We see their journey through to an ultimately forgiving and redemptive
conclusion.
DIRTY WORK features artwork which knocks at the door of magical realism and abstract expressionism, and blurs the lines between fantasy and reality. It’s a wildly visual and imaginative graphic novel that explores life’s pain and compulsions.
Henny Beaumont is an acclaimed graphic novelist, illustrator and award winning cartoonist for publications including the Guardian. Her first book, A Hole in the Heart (Myriad Editions), was shortlisted for the first graphic novel prize, and selected by Mumsnet as one of 10 best novels about motherhood of all time.
