Summary:
An investigation on the tragedy of Samuel Paty’s murder and his last days.
On the afternoon of October 16, 2020, Samuel Paty was murdered by a Chechen Islamist. He had just turned 47. He was the father of a little boy. Samuel Paty loved music, 80s rock, especially Sigur Rós, U2, Goran Bregovic, Pink Floyd and Apocalyptica. He was a discreet teacher, passionate about history and poetry, reading Baudelaire, Balzac, Maupassant, Zola, Flaubert and Julien Green. He often played chess. Tennis and ping-pong too. In the teachers’ lounge, he strolled around with his “Star Wars” mug in hand. His students liked him for his teaching… and for the jokes he wrote down in a notebook that was never far from his classroom notebook. He once told a former pupil: “I’d like my life and death to serve a purpose.”
