  • Summary:

A graphic novel that seeks to capture the teenage condition. BORN is set in a dystopian future where everyone has been cloned for what feels like forever.

Fin is bored. Bored with her life, with her family and with the lack of possibilities open to her. She has the sense that everything has happened before, and nothing is new.

Then the first child in 6,000 years is born and it sets into motion a chain of
events which sees everything change. At its heart, this is a story about renewal: personal, inter-personal and planetary.

Sarah Ling is a bit of a magpie. She has a PhD (in literature and film from the 1920s and 30s), and is as at home reading comics as she is picking through Freud or obscure poetry. She is fascinated by Sci-Fi and especially loves worlds where one small change allows us to ask big questions about the human condition. Her illustration style is all about smudged pencil lines and contemplative scenes.
Sarah was a mentee on Pathways into Children’s Publishing, an initiative run by Pop Up to help diversify children’s literature.
