  • Summary:

Joanna Karpowicz’s series of paintings starring Anubis came into existence in 2011. An Egyptian deity with the head of a jackal, a psychopomp of ancient origins, is pictured on Karpowicz’s canvases in contemporary contexts. They present the figure of Anubis not as a personification of death but as a guide of souls, „the midwife of the departing,” or, in Jung’s terms: „End of Life Doula.” He is the one who accompanies us in the transition from one world to another. We meet him at the end of our life path, but we can notice him throughout our lives – in places where the border between two worlds is particularly thin – in „Thin Places.” „Anubis. Thin Places” is a collection of 117 (1st) and 222 (2nd) high-quality reproductions of selected paintings and short comic panels by Karpowicz, created in the years 2012 – 2023. Both artbooks are hardcover, with a format of 28,6 x 21,6 cm (11.26” x 8.50”)
